Example Routes:
One Week (from Santiago to Santiago, 7+ Nights) Chile in one week would be a challenge: the country is big and there are so many possibilities, especially if you enjoy outdoor activities like skiing and surfing. With just a week to explore, it would be best to choose one region, starting and ending in Santiago so that you can enjoy the city and be close to the airport. Depending on your interests, consider a week in Patagonia, the desert of San Pedro de Atacama or the Central Region. A week in the Central Region, for example, would include such diverse experiences as the Andes, the wine country (Colchagua Valley), the coast from Santa Cruz to Vina del Mar and the capital of Valparaiso. |
Two Weeks (from Santiago to Santiago, 14+ Nights) If you have two weeks to explore the country, you should be able to add some more regions to the one week itinerary suggested above (either Patagonia or San Pedro de Atacama). For the Atacama itinerary, starting from Santiago, head North to the lovely San Pedro de Atacama (a two hour flight from Santiago to Calama then an hour by car to San Pedro). Allow three days for this excursion. Taking a flight from Calama head to Punta Arenas for a day and a night to visit the many unusual attractions. Allow another five days to visit the Torres del Paine National Park – a complete contrast to the deserts of Atacama – here you will enjoy wonderful hiking and glaciers. Plan to spend three days in the Puerto Varas area (a flight from Punta Arenas en route to Santiago stops in Puerto Varas and Pucon). Here you can see volancos and lush rainforest, hot springs and lakeside beaches. Hiking, kayaking, rafting and ziplining are just a few of the many activities in this area. Take a flight from Perto Varas back to Santiago. |
